Segregation in schools and DEI fear.
Good morning and thank you for reading again. Last night I met with Educators Voices Academy, an endeavor I am part of through IEA/NEA, which are local and national teacher unions. We were discussing what we would like to do for our yearly project centered around DEI mindset. It was brought up how "the right" have coopted the acronym as something bad. This is due to their comfort in homogenous thinking and viewing of the world rather than seeing it for the immense diversity (D) and beauty it encompasses. I always think of the Kevin Costner version of Robin Hood where a little girl asks Haseem if "God painted him" and he says "Allah loves beauty and diversity". Allah being God an entity having many names and forms. There is no "normal" in the world. Anthropogenic versions of normal come from reductionist, manipulated, binary thinking meant to 'other' parts of our existence and the world. This, that, those...what?
